Jehovah Tsur
THAT I MAY KNOW HIM SERIES
Jehovah Tsur-The Lord My Strength/Rock
Word of the Week
My soul waits in silence for God only, from Him is my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.
In silence? How does my soul wait in silence when everything around me is screaming and loud? Waiting challenges faith but waiting is necessary in letting Him order the way. Waiting is also defined hope. The scripture in Isaiah 40 v31 says, “but those who wait/hope in the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles. In bible study we just learnt about the eagle. It’s a majestic bird that soars like no other. Eagles are known to live up to 70 years old but to reach this age the eagle must make a hard decision. In its 40th year its long and flexible talons can no longer grab prey, which serves as food. Its long and sharp beak becomes old and bent so do does its wings, they thicken and get too heavy to fly. It’s at this point the eagle is left with two options, die or live. If it chooses death, it dies flying and hungry. If it chooses life it has to go through a painful process of change that lasts about 150 days of being on mountain-top and sit on its nest. There the eagle painfully knocks its beak against a rock until it plucks it out. Then it will wait for a new beak to grow back. It will wait again for new talons/feathers to grow then use its new beak to pluck out the old feathers. At this point, it’s been worth the wait the eagle takes its famous flight of rebirth and lives for 30more years. Why is waiting necessary then, to allow the Lord to do a work in us. It is during this time of waiting upon him that faith is challenged. How do you fall down and hide on a mountaintop? How do you move from your usual life to something that’s different and perhaps painful? Dare to fly before its time? Unless God says fly, that could kill a beauty and a work the Lord is doing in you.
How can your soul keep silent and rest when you do not know Him. Do you know whom you are waiting upon? If you know that He is your strength, your shield and your rock! Then you will wait. After all, we draw our strength from Him who is Strength. He has a plan be glad to rest in Him. To you it maybe a mountain top of shame but to Him it’s a steady Rock, unshakeable for you to stand on. He is your fortress. Jehovah Tsur (tsoor).
